Common Questions

Contact lens questions

Why is a contact lens exam different from a regular eye exam?

Contact lenses sit directly on your eye, so we take extra measurements of the eye's surface, check how the lenses fit and move, and make sure your eyes stay healthy while wearing them. Your contact lens prescription includes details a glasses prescription doesn't.

How long is a contact lens prescription valid?

In the U.S., contact lens prescriptions are generally valid for one year, unless your doctor sets a shorter period for a medical reason. A yearly exam keeps your prescription current and your eyes healthy.

Can I wear contacts if I have astigmatism or need readers?

Yes. Toric lenses correct astigmatism, and multifocal contact lenses can correct distance and near vision at the same time for people who need readers.

My contacts feel dry by the end of the day. What can I do?

Arizona's dry air is tough on contact lens wearers. Switching lens materials, moving to daily disposables, or treating underlying dry eye often makes a big difference. Let us know at your exam.

Can I use my FSA or HSA for contact lenses?

Yes. Contact lenses and contact lens exams are generally FSA and HSA eligible, and we accept FSA and HSA cards.
